Why I’m building Desi.Net

Namaste — I’m Suresh. I live in Plano, Texas, and I grew up in Hyderabad. Like millions of us, my life runs between two worlds — and in both of them, the everyday information of Desi life is scattered: events in one group chat, the good grocery store by word of mouth, the temple’s festival calendar on a flyer, movie showtimes somewhere else again.

Desi.Net is my answer: one place, per city, for the whole of Desi life — news, events, movies, festivals and panchang, temples, trusted businesses, and honest city guides. Built for the people who live in each city first, wherever in the world that city is.

I’m building it the way I’d want it built for my own family. That means some rules I don’t bend:

  Real over big.A city page publishes only when it is genuinely useful — never a thin page to chase search traffic.

  A community home, not a police blotter.We don’t publish negative stories about named local businesses or private people. When we got that wrong once, we fixed it the same day and published the rule.

  Free where it matters.Listings are free. Claiming your business is free. Paid features never change facts.
• 🪔
  Pan-South-Asian, and neutral.Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Nepali — one community here. Politics stays at the door.

The goal is public and unembarrassed: a million Desis a day, and the honest number on the front page until we get there. After the screen comes the street — live Desi Lifestyle gatherings, city by city, run with local organizers.
